This is a picture of a portion of my Strome kilt (exact same tartan as Slowburn's), and the twill seems to be running opposite from what you stated... unless I misunderstood what you said.
This topic has been covered in other threads up here before. Some companies have the 'face' of their fabric running \\\ (Lochcarron's 16 oz Strome & HOE's HW cloth). Others (the majority) have the twill running /// (MOST ALL other manufacturers and weights).

The only reason that it is an issue:

1. Flaws / knots / etc are pushed through to the 'bad side' of the cloth. Keep in mind there are usually VERY few flaws and MOST TIMES the 'good side' and the 'bad side' are indistinguishable from each other.

2. If there's a coating (teflon, fire retardant, other special chemical coatings) on the fabric, it will be on the 'good' side.

Do some kiltmakers accidentally (or on purpose) make all kilts with the twill running /// even on cloth where it should be running \\\? Yes. 99 times out of 100 will it matter? No.

I seem to remember on one of the threads Matt Newsome admitting that he either made or owns himself a kilt that was made with the 'wrong' side of the cloth. He just carefully inspected it and pushed the couple knots he found through to the other side and no one can tell the difference (and I believe him).
