Well sounds like a great idea for you guys. I have already done it. Down from 182lbs to 147lbs in 2 years, waist size down to 36", blood pressure back to normal and cholesterol coming down by eating lots of oily fish and fruit n veg. I only eat meat once per week. I like walking but at age 65 there is only so much I can do. My dad was dead at 62 and he was very overweight.
Suggestion for a incentive. Buy a new kilt for the size you WANT to be, then work into it.
Chris.

Started a work-out program at the start of the year and so far so good. I'm down 20lbs (from 235 to 215) and more importantly to me my waist pan** waist size is back down to a 34. My real goal is just to be back in a size 32, not really worried about the scale weight as long as the number in my waistband is what I want to see. Already ran headlong into the one major downside; I'm now in the last hole of the straps of my kilt and doubt I can swing the cost of replacement if I reach my goal. Ah well, maybe I can work a trade with someone going the other way on their straps ;)

I might as well chime in. 10 years ago when I retired from the Navy I was about 230 or so. I ballooned to 315 and have been between 290 and 305 for a good chunk of that... Last November I had a total knee replacement of my left knee and have been tough to stop since then. I'm at 280 (or 20 stone) right now and will drop more as time goes... for those that think knee replacement is the end of "living", check this that I did 2 days ago!

I am currently having issues with some tendonitis in my left heel and am about recovered from an MCL strain in my right knee... Slow down? Not now!!!

Damn, you guys make me feel damn chubby, I'm 5'8" 246lb, with 43" waist, and a 50" chest, damn moobs, I just started trying to diet and workout about a month (or so) ago, I have been too lazy, though I got p90x, and noticed that it's very pushup intensive, and my upper body (arms) are not the best, any advice ? I did just recently pick up some DDR pads for cardio,

Other reasons also but I can share those in the dedicated thread.
Sharing goals and progress is a great way to stay motivated.
Alright! Any idea how you want to do it? Workout program, gym trainer, at home program, etc?

Nice! Good to see folks that have been there and done it! Keeping it up?
The kilt as motivation? If I was going for weight loss that would be incentive indeed! Only thing for our larger bretheren is that when you reach that goal you shouldn't stop at that size if you can still keep getting healthier then go for it! It's great to see so many who want to dedicate some time and energy to their health.
You ready to rock guys?!

I like this idea. I've ballooned (for me) up to 180 lbs. I'd like to see me back to 165. Gyms are out of the question (too far away), so I'm going to have to commit myself to getting out of the house and walking in the morning before it gets too hot. I think a bike is in my future, along with a new kilt...my reward for making the healthy changes I need to make.

Ok, here are the stats that I need to improve on. These are the results from my first Insanity Workout Fit Test. I have to re-test every two weeks to track my progress.
Switch kicks-60
Power jacks-50
Power knees-85
Power jumps-20
Globe jumps-6
Suicide jumps-13
Push-up jacks-23
Low plank oblique-lost count-too tired
I know the names don't mean anything to you but this is my base for measuring my progress. That's what matters. Any improvement would be great.
C'mon guys! Get out there and make this happen!
Hugh
P.S. Coinneach, a sweet new kilt awaits! Don't make it wait TOO long!

I'll jump on this too. I've recently started hitting the gym again after taking close to three years off. I've gone from 180 to 230 in the last year. Time to get back down in weight. Also, as I've mentioned in other threads, I will be competing in a highland games in October.
Goals:
1) Weight back down under 200. (199 would be fine with me.)
2) Strength and muscle mass to be more than it ever was.
3) Wear my old kilt without kilt strap extenders!
waist - 40"
hips - 44"
height - 5' 11" (I think, I haven't had my height measured in a while)
weight - 128lbs
My current work out schedule is weight lifting Monday, Wednesday, Friday for an hour after work and on Tuesdays and Thursdays I walk on a treadmill during my lunch break. It sounds like a lot, but I've been sticking to it for going on three weeks this week.
Good luck to everyone! Time to get motivated!
