Since jb88ci is of Irish rather than Scottish extraction, a Scottish tartan might be inappropriate.
The suggestion of a North American district tartan is an excellent one, but if the Irish connection is significant, there is a whole range of setts that could be used.
You could choose from Eire, Ireland’s National, All Ireland Green, All Ireland Red or All Ireland Blue.
As mentioned there are Irish county tartans, provincial tartans and setts for the ancient kingdoms that have not survived as either counties or provinces.
The most authentic Irish tartan is Ulster, and in the form of Ulster Red it is quite handsome.
There is also a Spirit of Ulster tartan (purplish blue with narrow red and white stripes) and Ulster Scots (also blue, but with black and some purple).
It is, however, quite likely that jb88ci is not of Ulster Scottish extraction, which would rule that one out.

What does it mean when a Tartan is called Hunting and then a Clan name like
Hunting Stewart or Hunting Mcleaod ? Does this mean that would be the Tartan of choice back then while hunting?
And can anyone wear a " Hunting tartan "

If you haven't made up your mind yet, check out the thread on the Old Culloden Tartan. You can wear a bit of history.

Thomas H: There are kilt history experts on this site, and hopefully one or more of them will weigh in and clarify, but ...
{Clan} Hunting is just another tartan associated with the given clan. They can certainly be used while hunting, but I suspect there are other garments far more suitable for walking/stumbling around in the woods and bog, and thus are not used very often.
Anyone can wear any "Hunting" kilt unless the tartan is restricted, which isn't very likely. If you have any doubt about a particular tartan, just check the Scottish Register of Tartans for possible restrictions. I plan to buy a Stewart Hunting kilt and I have no connection to the Stewart family, as far as I know. And, I will likely never hunt in it.
As for the origin of the word "Hunting" in connection with clan kilts, I do not know, but I suspect it was invented during the Victorian excitement about kilts, while weavers were looking for new names for kilts woven in their cloth.
I hope this helps and doesn't mislead.
