Definitely! When I bought the kilt, it was something I didn't expect to wear out and about much. Once I got decent hose, garter ties (made by Cynthia), and--especially--a better sporran, I started going around in the kilt more. Those little details rounded things out, and now I definitely want to finish all the details and be able to dress the kilt up properly.

That, and get a much better kilt. (Not that there's anything wrong with this kilt--I got it to be sure I liked having a kilt without spending too much.)

Thanks to everybody for the kind replies. It was a very fun day

At last a picture where my eyes are not immediately drawn to the kilt wearer.
Hats off to you Cynthia that is fantastic work well done. I am truly impressed. Have you made any plans to make Argyll or Crail Jackets?

Nice Kilt as well Christopher but I am afraid Cynthia steals the show.

Nice photos. Great dress Cynthia. Lots and lots of hours went into that dress, I'm sure.

I don't think I will. My To Do list for sewing is already pretty huge, so for things like modern-day kilt jackets, just purchasing already existing garments would be better for me. I don't really see Christopher needing any accessories of that level for a while in all honesty.

In fact, even for Victorian costuming, I've already admitted to him that I might make the occasional waistcoat, but we'll just purchase those items. I will however make him 18th century garments, and I do have the Art of Kiltmaking book so I intend to make him a few kilts. I was also given a cantle, so a sporran will be on the list eventually as well.

Ohhhhhh yes. Definitely I worked on the whole gown (including the original ball gown bodice) over a period of a few years off and on (I've sped up over the years, but I was very slow to start and had to start and stop a lot for various reasons). Even if I had continuously worked on it as fast as I could, it still would have taken a while to get through every layer. It was my first major sewing project. I also made the corset, the combination undergarment, the bustle, and the petticoat, as well as the underskirt, overskirt, and both bodices and reticule. The burgundy gown project is finished as far as I'm concerned, and I'm glad. Those big smiles in the photos were my "Finally! Finished! And I got to wear something to this show like I'd always planned!" smile.

Thanks so much for all the replies everyone!

I would say that about 50% of the times I wear my kilt I do so without a sgian dubh (usually to avoid the hassle or potential issues that might arise due to knife-carrying), and I am surprised at how often that is the first thing people notice!

Cynthia you did a great job on your dress for sure. If you can pull that off your plans to make a couple of kilts and possibly waistcoats should be a breeze. Good to see how happy you both appear in the photos and at the event.
