Re: Different looks pleating to the stripe

Superb kilt making as always, Barb! I can't wait to place my order!!!

I love the style of the brass buckles too, can't wait to finally have a kilt with brass buckles and brown leather straps (weathered/repro tartans)!

    Well done!!!

    Wonderful!

Is it just me, or does the tartan sett itself seem to somehow change depending on what colours are emphasised by the different pleating in the back? I mean in the one, the blue appears to come out, while it's the yellow in the second that seems to be highlighted.

Curious. And perhaps something else that can be used to great effect when pleating to the stripe.

Lovely work and thanks for sharing!

    Cheers,

    Michael

very nice work I'm surprised how changing the stripe has also affected how i see the apron colour, the darker stripe sort of draws me to the same on the apron making the two kilts look well different colour wise

Re: Different looks pleating to the stripe

Barb, so excited to see the second Heatherfield kilt. It looks as impeccable as the first. And despite being a shorter length of tartan than the original, it hasn't seemed to affect the overall appearance one bit.

As to the choice of stripes, when I was working on refinements to the design of the tartan, I was fortunate to have the input of a weaver, a historian and a kiltmaker. The kiltmaker happened to be Barb herself. As a result of her feedback, I considered how to make it easier to have several options when it comes to pleating to the stripe. It was, after all, my intention to make this my first to-the-stripe kilt. This second version proves that good advice can go a long way.

Eric, I must apologize for having failed to respond to your inquiries. I don't recall having missed any, but the it is the case that I don't have any to sell. Jamie's kilt was made from the remnant left after Barb made my mine after the one, and as far as I know, only run of the stuff. I gave it to Jamie for his years of friendship and support to me through this site.

I have given some thought to requesting another run of it, but I am also told that the process has changed over at Scotweb.

    Regards,
    Rex in Cincinnati.

It's all alright, I figured that there was none left. Having a swatch of it, I could look at it everyday. I just wonder if another run would be as wonderfull.
Even thought of a tweed version of it.

Ok people, go see what I have to sell and buy something so I can get a kilt...

Wonderful, both of them, and the pictures serve nicely to illustrate the point.

Rex should get all the kudos for designing a truly fabulous tartan! He has a real eye for color and proportion.
