Re: First kilt - Utilikilt sizing/adjustability
With the UKs, accurately measure were you intend to wear it and then keep in mind the UK guidance of a loose fit. My first UK, I ordered as instructed and it was too big without the belt (fell quite a few inches) but when I spoke with Jenneviere, she said that was by design. I opted to order the next size down, paid the exchange fee, and the survivor version fits perfectly. So, I measured 38, ordered 38 but then changed to a 37.

As mentioned, UKs are not adjustable apart from the belt. Another consideration for you is wear height. Some wear UKs with the waist band at jean level others at traditional level. I wear mine higher so had to add a little extra to the waist and adjust the length accordingly.

Re: First kilt - Utilikilt sizing/adjustability
The UK will definitely handle you being a bit under the size. I'm currently a 38 or so, but my 39 still fits fine. I even still wear my 41 without problems, although it does feel looser. Once I get my belt on I don't really notice a difference.
Just definitely wear a belt, which you'd do anyway, right?
Apparently they'll also handle a bit of expansion by leaving the top snaps undone. Again, just use a belt to keep it secure.
