As I'm no expert on axes here is a picture of the shape I'm thinking of:

The bearded axe was quite functional as well as historically correct. However, it was primarily a woodcutting/carpentry blade style that could be pressed into secondary service as a weapon.
Still being made today:

Re: Viking axe kilt pin
I'm aware that several types of axes were used by the vikings for different tasks and that some vikings even just had one multipurpose axe. I think I'll just have to give McAllans a call about the kilt pin they had and if they can't help me finding another one, I might as well go with the viking knot kilt pin they have at scotweb.co.uk as it is very nice as well.

Then I say go for it, as it would've been a great way to show your viking heritage.

Re: Viking axe kilt pin
After reading this thread I bought the kilt pin pscas provided a link to.
It arrived yesterday - very quick delivery considering I'm in Australia.
It's a nice size and a decent weight. The pin gripper-thingy (technical term!) is also quite strong. I don't forsee it falling off easily.

For only a few dollars, I'm very happy with it. Now I just need a bearskin cloak and horned helmet to round out the look...

Re: Viking axe kilt pin
Very nice, and if you need a nice bearded axe to go along with the pin, see: http://www.adriaangerberknives.com/beard7.html

Re: Viking axe kilt pin
I'm sure if you had the bearded axe as well as the bearded axe kilt pin you would hear very few disparaging remarks.
Very nice pin, by the way - very striking!
