    Re: just back from Hawaii

Awesome! I remember doing that in the Marines - hence my 'jump wings' on my dress blues below. We didn't get to wear trainers though!

    Cheers,

You went all the way to Hawaii to do that? I'll take the warm waters myself.

    Hope you had fun.

In this mind, "Hawaii" means mahalo, palm trees, scenery, surfboard, mai-tai, sunsets, luau...not exiting an airplane in the complete absence of a boarding ladder.

    Re: just back from Hawaii

That is exactly how I celebrated my 30th birthday. A tandem jump over the North Shore of Oahu. I jumped a lot when I was 19 and 20. But got married and quit the dangerous stuff. As much as I would enjoy doing it again, my back injury will never let me now. Awesome photo!!

    Re: just back from Hawaii

Ditto. While my back doesn't bother me, a few x-rays several years ago showed what my doctor said was "arthritis like an old man". Asked if I'd had any previous back injuries, I said no and then asked if repeated landings in a military 'chute would do it. Doc looked at me as if I were stupid and said "uh, yeah" and advised me to never do it again for fear of further damage and aggravating what arthritis is already there.

Sport parachutes are considerably slower in descent than military chutes. Landings are softer, too. Or so I'm told. I never jumped a sport chute.
