    I suspect it may be an Amerikilt. I got two before my holiday and they are now made of a Carhartt type cotton, very stiff but durable. I have washed mine twice and they still retain a fair bit of stiffness so I might just try that tennis ball thing.

    Kind of difficult to make any suggestions without the additional information...Hello???

    If its cotton - like a Utilikilt - wash it SIX times each time using UNSCENTED Downy...then do the tennis ball thing.

    Another way to soften a kilt is to wear it a lot...
