Wallace Catanach; Waterfall Kilts
Right before this past Christmas, 2011, I finally made the two hour drive to State College, PA to visit my kilt maker, Wallace Catanach. And what a wonderful journey it was. First, the weather was pleasant and, second, the scenery going to Happy Valley was down right gorgeous. Not to mention that meeting Wally, after numerous emails and phone calls, was the highlight of the day.
Wally had made me a kilt from Dalgliesh, heavyweight material; special weave of MacDonagh. Actually, he made two more, also, for my boys. My kilt, though, had to have a few minor adjustments and a pressing to it. It was extremely gratifying to see 'the master' at work. All in all, my visit to Wally's house wasn't that long. Upon finishing up the kilt, Wally changed into his Isle of Skye kilt and showed me his custom made sgian dubh. Then we headed to a neat Irish pub in town. Oh, and the guy wouldn't let me pay for lunch.
If you're checking into kilt makers, then please consider Wally. He's an extremely talented guy (he's also an engineering prof at Penn State), and one hell of a nice guy: http://waterfallkilts.com/Home
Here are some pics of Wally at work, and of me wearing the finished product.
