Like Tobus, I would like to see an alternate design. Huge fan of maroon, black and brown/tan... white gets dirty too easily...

A noble ambition. My alma mater, Oregon State University had a tartan design contest. The winning tartan fell under all the marketing and property rights that dominate universities these days. Pendleton Woolen mills sells scarfs and blankets in the tartan. Optimistic me, I began writing to see if I could get "permission" to do a special weave to make a kilt from. Apparently the concept of making kilts from tartan fabric escapes the administrators and law grinders in charge of University property rights....got a lot of smoke blown up my tailpipe - but never permission to have the kilt material woven.

Just sayin'....there's a lot more to dealing with universities than just tartan design. Felt like I was negotiating with a hidden committee of Scrooge McDucks....(yes I know UofO is the ducks...)

    DrummerBoy ,

I like the tartan ! However , as a Boilermaker , I think there should be a black and gold stripe in there somewhere .

I will now run , duck and cover from you and Tobus !

All kidding aside , I do like the tartan !

No need to duck from me. I am a Boilermaker too (BSIM '80). I just couldn't get excited over black and gold in a tartan as I did the Aggie maroon and white.

Based on your thread , I thought perhaps you were an Aggie , I know a few that consdier Boilers to be a rival .

I agree on the black and gold , even though it's our school colors , it might make for an odd tartan . It would kind of be like a Loud MacLeod in reverse , black background with a gold sett . Now that I've said this , someone will probably design one .

I AM also an Aggie (MS, '94). As to the rivalry, it pales in comparison for anyone living here in The Land of the Crazy Tree Nut People (the territory of Ohio State Buckeye fans and alumnae). Their world is scarlet and grey, in a black and white sort of way. But then Ohio State is the only truly professional sports franchise in the state.
