    hello and greetings,
ma was a morrison. The old old badge I always saw (I think he gave to her in 50's when she came to USA) was 3 heads ..saracens they were called ..many of the morrison groups on east side of scotland use that badge ..fyi . motto: prudentia prae- prestat ..roughly perks after labor . ..I mind my granda talking to her about it ..we grew up ..just with the blue green taran now called ancient ..'s what i grew with ..so that's that .

the southern (west) morrisons are said to be irish near Harris ..the Lewis ones are norse so they say ..the easterners are said to be ..old stock (pictish/lowland) or some say french ..be nice to see the dna reports they into in the clan project thing ..

    have a nice day .

Yes, when the Lord Lyon recognized the Chief of the name he cast a pretty wide net. I don’t suppose anyone would give a particular branch or family any grief for using the tartan and badge they grew up with. As you say, that is that. In fact in photos I have seen from the last gathering there were more folks in the green than the red tartan.

I enjoyed your anecdotal information regarding the heritage of the Morrison branches. Regarding the DNA project here is a map and desciption of some results.

    fer kicks,
#1 they all look good .
pends on what Morrison not reading the above write ins ..My Granda always had a 3 headed brooch "saracens" "Prudentia Praesto Praestat" ?!? he gave my Ma as a gift -small and very old ..Southern & Eastern Morrisons use this ..I'm tracking mine and they're pointing to a sub/spet of Buchanans ..they tell me all Morrisons are under the Phabbay so I'm fair confused . Uncle Robt held onto the Lewis story for all Morrisons . Southern Isles are Irish Morrisons Lewis are Norse Morrisons Aberdeenshire/Bognie are maybe Norman Morrisons meant swarthy we were told ..now ..Between Glasga' and Stirling the trails and census info -z'at censii ?!? point to Buchanan sept ..whoosht ! no matter what ..Granda caught the biggest samon in UK in 1976 47.5" long 41.5 lbs when weighed Cothal Pool Aberdeen Scotland ..maybe them Morrisons really just got around a lot .

    The Islands Crests,

the folks had a plaque and they used silver which is what Argent is in French .

I think silver was used much painting it to give off more glint over a doorway ..
The sword was silver bladed ..
Embattled wall ..yes a turret looking tower ..
Dun Eyestein is an actual place you probably know under a clan dig ..Hugh's caslte ..there was a strong MacDonald of ClanRanald maybe mentioned ..our plaque had waves that were the rolling circular things ..crests .
the waves blue was more of a sky blue almost like Lovat ..light -ish looking
the grass was a normal dark green .
silver was here and there all over for many uses .
I think the masonry joints were silver as well . very fine ..
    Morrisons !
