Adriane Blewitt wears an actual traditional kilt, at kilt-length. I don't know who made it, but I guarantee you that everybody takes Adriane seriously as an athlete.
Kate Burton actually wears a USA Kilts casual model, as made by Rocky from USA Kilts, here on X Marks.
Kristy Scott, currently ranked #3 in the world, wears a sportkilt.

That one is a custom job, I've seen it. It's actually half lace. Seriously...half tartan, half lace. It completely scandalized the old fogies at the local Caledonian Club last year. Melissa is no longer throwing, she's seriously hurt her back, which is a trajedy.
Our local Amazon, and CHAC thrower and good friend to many in the Nor Cal Rabble, Bethany Owen, wears a black-and-flame contemporary kilt that I made for her.
Mindy Pockoski, who until she semi-retired 2 years ago to start her family, owned I think 4 world records in the Games.... she's a lovely, lovely woman, and the nicest person you could imagine.

The length of your kilt, at least here in the USA, is kind of irrelevant.
BTW, I know every single one of the women in these pictures, personally except for Emily Burchett, and every one of them is a lovely, beautiful, attractive, very female and generally wonderful person.

I learned something else from this thread, wearing the give-away tee shirt is totally optional. I felt kind of bad when I didn't wear the tees (one I didn't get, the first one I didn't know you're supposed to). I like to cut the tees up into stylish girl-y wear before I wear it. It's hard to do that on the field.
It's good form to wear the giveaway t-shirt, cut up or not. It's often plastered with advertising, which supports the Games, so it's good to support the crew. However, if you want to "alter" it to something more "aesthetically pleasing" I think you can go right ahead!

Every Highlands athlete worthy of the title should carry a pair of scissors/shears in their kit bag specifically for the purpose of removing the sleeves and collars of games T-shirts.
