As I said in another thread:
Brave was great; and the main part of the story was not given away by the trailers. The missus and I both thought it got very happily dusty in the theatre at the end. Pixar retains its gift for story-telling. Wore my Auld Scotland kilt, and was the only kilt in sight, except for on the screen...

I saw a matinee this afternoon. I not know what I expected, but I was disappointed in the storyline. I guess I thought I'd see more of the Scottish Games. I wore my X Marks the Scot T-shirt and kilt. The visual effects in the movie are amazing.
As I was leaving, I talked to a guy in a kilt in the lobby who was on his way in and I asked if he was on XMarks. He wasn't, so I told him about the forum. He said he might become a member soon.

Invited by a friend to go to the Brave Movie and was informed that I was not to wear the kilt to dinner at a Chinese Buffet before "because the Chinese lady wouldn't understand!" Oh really? and then I was to arrive at his place in plenty of time so that I could don me home made kilt before the move at his house!
We attended an animated movie during the past week and after inquiring when Brave would be showing, I said that I jsut finished making my kilt not too long before; the proprietor made the comment that if I came kilted that he would let me in free! (We shall see!)

My living history group was asked by a local Pixar PR rep to attend the Denver premiere last Wednesday. We went again tonight- both times in full garb. Tonight our piper brought his pipes, and he piped us in procession from the theater to the Irish restaraunt up the street. Yes, we did make a grand entrance...

Our band played for a Brave event, photo down lower on this page

(I wasn't playing with them)
I did do a piping duo gig yesterday at WDI in Glendale (CA). Another duo performed at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank. So anyhow a lot of pipers are getting gigs due to this movie! (All over the world, not just here!)
BTW all the families attending Disneyland which have little redheaded girls with curly hair have been dressing them in Merida costumes! Quite a sight to see, all the little Meridas running around.

Saw it this afternoon. Yes...it's a Disney/Pixar animation and not a grippingly real portrayal of Medieval Scottish life....but waddaya expect? It's probably more historically accurate than Braveheart. (little smiley so you know that I make the leetle joke here and don't set off a side discussion about historical accuracy)
But good movie...amazing animation especially in the wide angle scenes with character interacting in them...Merida's unbelievably red hair is one of the most incredible computer animation tricks I've ever seen...The Clan Chieftans and their sons are excellent...especially the big guy who's speech is unintelligible Scottish mumblings. Great story about family and curses...the witch could get her own spin-off cartoons because I don't believe that they'd put that much effort into her and her pet raven otherwise.
Go and enjoy...you will be impressed. If you are looking for very kilt specific stuff, you will be disappointed...there is one good scene where a group of warriors have toe scape from atop a tower that's got a kilt-zinger attached to it, though.
And we did have one little girl at this showing wearing the Merida dress from the Disney Store...but who are WE to say anything about anybody who dresses "funny" at an event?

My wife and I took 13 of our grandkids. I wore my new xmarks, pleated to the no-stripe, and most of the kids wore the caubeens and balmorals I've made for them. It was a great time!
Scotland is only 1/5 the size of Montana, but Scotland has over 3,000 castles and Montana has none.
