Like the other thread about the Tilted Kilt, it seems to me that this has been opened in the wrong forum, and should rather be in The Tartan Place.
Personally I feel that the SRT has made a major boob here in registering something so similar not merely to another well-known tartan but probably the best-known tartan in the world.
I don’t know what criteria are used to define “sufficient difference”, but it seems to me that the rules are not yet clear enough.
Regards,
Mike

Well, it's obviously different, but I'll admit that after closely observing that tartan for years I always just assumed it was Royal Stewart
Order of the Dandelion, The Houston Area Kilt Society, Bald Rabble in Kilts, Kilted Texas Rabble Rousers, The Flatcap Confederation, Kilted Playtron Group.

"A place to discuss old kilts, new kilts, red kilts, blue kilts..."
Do you mean we need a spot for tartans, "A place to discuss old tartans, new tartans, red tartans, blue tartans..."?
Just asking, I've seen several tartans discussed here
