About half way down the page to will find a similarly attired soldier and the story of how the kilt had been banned for combat dress.

The photo is great, thanks for sharing. Also down the page is the Service Dress Jacket diagrams that I saved. Might be a nice sewing project for some melton wool or something.

The rationale might have been the same but I still think that the picture in the OP is pre-WWI.

Agreed. Those are late 19th C. British army tents. Photo might be taken in Africa. Check out the deeply tanned faces and hands!

I think this is spot-on. A clue is in the name or type of dancers: Salome. Dance of the Seven Veils? Perhaps their sporrans were the last 'veil'.

    That's not a sun tan - they're blushing !
Seriously though, I totally agree with your dating of the picture.

I don't want to be disagreeable, but that pattern of tent is very similar to the bell tents used in the CF up until recenttimes; and as for the tans any group of pasty white guys out into the field for a couple of weeks and you can get that!

However, I would like to draw your attention to the sporrans. Abrown sporran with two brown/ dark tassels. ... It should be a dead give away. I am thinking these fine lands are members of the London Scottish. A quick recce of theweb and that
