Hello rabble...perhaps I've missed this...looking for a guide/directions on converting a suit coat for wearing w/kilt. I have a FANTASTIC tailor where I work who can make anything and his quality is amazing (he'd prefer to build from ground up rather than convert) but has little experience in this area. I'd like to provide him a pattern or guide. Can one of you point me in the right direction?
Thx!

You can look at many of the pictures on the forum of jackets and there are threads on converting. One other source is the "Cutters' Practical Guide to Cutting, Making, and Fitting, Lounges, Reefers, Norfolk, Sporting & Patrol Jackets" They have an illustration of both a Highland Jacket and a Highland Dress Jacket. The picture can be found at:

There is also information on the Cutters and Tailor forum on Highland Jacket (you have to be a member to view this page).

This should give a good guide to your tailor.

cmcbeth you might also want to look at Simplicity Pattern 5029. This might be useful to tailor. It appears that it is out of publication but I have seen copies on Ebay.
