Well, Kevin the reason for not sharing this great find is I haven't seen them. I'm sure Superstore 1833 doesn't have them unless they came in today. I've checked Walmart.com and see no listing. Looks a little upscale for Wally World. Are you pulling our leg, mate?

No leg pulling going on here. I walked into the Sterling store by Dulles Town Center for a little look-see over lunch. I did a double take when I walked by, turned and felt the fabric (the tag was turned face down) and thought it was nice, turned the tag over and there it was Harris Tweed. I turned the lapel and found the Harris Tweed Globe lable. I didn't try one on but they have normal jacket sizing. I'm not sure what kind of size range they had but there were at least 15 of each pattern. I may return tomorrow and try one on.

I've been in a few Walmarts during this holiday shopping season. but I have not seen any of these beauties. I'd snap up a gray one in a second. I love the brown herringbone Harris tweed jacket I've had for years. Wearing it right now, in fact.

I have found that Walmart clothes tend to disintegrate from rubbing on the bag on the way to the car in the parking lot but this does look like a handsome jacket. I miss my Harris Tweed Pendleton sport coat greatly.

How on God's green earth are they able to make and sell these things out of Harris tweed? The cost of the tweed alne exceeds the original price.
Could it be old stock fabric that was purchased at a discount to create inventory space for this year's weaves?

My guess, and it is only a guess, is that the cost of a Harris Tweed jacket can be broken down from highest to lowest as follows: retail markup, sewing, distribution, and cloth. A huge company like Walmart will pay rock bottom (producer cost + a negotiated profit for the weaver) for LOTS of cloth, ship it to a 3rd-world country for sewing, and then distribute and sell it through their own wholesale channel and retail "shops".
They save money at all four steps and largely control the quality at each step, eg assure that the quality of the cloth and sewing meets their minimum standard before final payment. Because they sell retail in very large volume, their unit mark up can be much less than the "average" clothing store. At $75 per jacket, they clearly are not selling at a loss.
Now, if someone who knows the actual answer would weigh in and tell us the "real story".
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.
