The story is about guns, gun crime and the aftermath, not about kilts.
Sorry, but this should not be here.

Sorry to offend you with the events of my life. When it happened, people here showed concern for my family. I thought this was a community of friends. I was talking to people whom I thought were my friends. If this is what X Marks has come to, then fine. I'm gone.

Wow! There is a human being still on this board. Thanks, David. The next post or two I make in this thread will likely be my last on X Marks. I'm moving here: http://thescotsforum.com/forum.php I can actually talk to people there...

Speaking as an individual, I find the above comment to be unfair, that human beings are somehow rare on here.
We are all human beings trying to be sensitive and fair in emotive and difficult circumstances.
People are allowed to disagree and the fact of their disagreement does not make them unsympathetic or less human.

I will not be cast as the bad guy in this thread, because I am not. You all have the right to your opinion and so do I. What do you think the poll is for at the top of the page, if not for both sides of the argument?
We have rules here at X Marks the Scot, which in a lot of ways sets us apart from many of the other forums. We have rules in society. Those of you who were in the military know that their rules are rigorously enforced.
I content that this thread is about a gun crime and the aftermath of that crime and violates Rule 11 "the weapon itself or its use".
Just because this is the Miscellaneous Forum, does not mean that anything goes. The rules are the rules and nowhere in the rules does it say that rules will be relaxed in different areas.

@ Nighthawk -
Sorry to offend you with the events of my life.
I am not offended by the events of your life. I disagree with you. I think you are misguided for starting this thread. I am merely the man who has a different opinion to yours - I am not your enemy. There is really no need to take umbrage.

I think I should apologise, I was the mod advocating returning this thread - thinking that there would be supportive posts to help Nighthawk face a return to the courtroom today. The original report of events at the theatre managed to survive here, and I thought that this follow up deserved to be on the forum too.
To those who thought along the same lines, thank you.

I had no clue!!!!!
I have been out of the loop due to some health issues. I am so glad to hear that all is ok physically. I know there has to be a great emotional and mental trauma though. If you need anything or just to talk feel free to contact me here, on facebook, or at my email. haroldcannon@hotmail.com I can only say that I wish there were more that I could do.

Does this thread violate Rule 11? Not yet, but I think it will violate rule 11 or 5 sooner or later.

Are you kidding me? It's the Misc Forum. You know? For other than kilt related topics.
And are we really tha scared of rule 11 that we can't even discuss a topic that could stray a bit? I'm pretty sure that if it strays the Mods will give a gentle reminder, and the membership has proven to be mature enough to get back on track.
Hawk- should you decide to jump ship, I certainly don't blame you.

Somehow the poll, which should have been attached to the moderator discussion thread has travelled with the thread itself. There seems to be no way to disable it, or move it to where it ought to be - not that I can see.
The moderators thought that Rule 11 had not been infringed - so I moved the thread back here.
My argument was that it is about the trial.
IF it was about weapons then by the same argument it would not be proper to mention an American or other armed policeman, serving in the armed forces, cooking or eating wild duck, venison or any game animal, using fur from an animal which had been shot - but then things would just get silly - wouldn't they?

Nighthawk, I wish you and your family peace and comfort in a tragic situation and environment where both can be hard to find. I can't even begin to comprehend the feelings and emotions that you must all be dealing with. Please don't make a decision now, in the midst of this disquiet, that would prevent us from showing our concern for you and your being able to benefit from our support.
