I'm curious how this turns out as well. In my small town, with a very conservative (and crotchety) judge, I could guarantee that wearing a kilt for jury duty would get me sent home to change, with a stern lecture. He does it all the time to people who aren't dressed "appropriately" in his view.

I wore a kilt last year when I was called for jury duty. I asked the judge on the first day if it would be permissable and she replied "certainly". No problems with security either. I wore the kilt pin but did not wear my sgian dubh. I felt a little odd without it as I never go without it ordinarily.
Of course, this judge was a woman and we all know how a kilt affects the gentler sex.

Ah, but here in the San Francisco Bay Area it's more likely the judge would be sent home for being culturally insensitive.

I would love to be sent home to change... & return wearing a different kilt.

Sitting and waiting to see whether I'll be called for vetting. Did my research and found out last night that the courthouse has wi-fi available, so brought my netbook 'pooter in addition to my iPhone. One woman, also waiting, has already complimented me on the kilt. I'll try to get someone to take a pic. . .

*** for pretty much the entire State of California.
Tobus, if a judge does that then remind him that he is in violation of the First Ammendment. Legally he can't to squat. That goes for pretty much any courtroom in the USA except maybe courts martial.

In November was called up in my county (Denton). So I phoned ahead and asked. The clerk of courts was most clear that I come in a "more traditional" outfit. So each court/seat probably has a differing opinion.

That would be so comforting to know while sitting in a holding cell after having been cited for contempt.

I'm excused and considered to have served; good for another year now. Got more kilt compliments, and a deputy sheriff took this for me:
"It's all the same to me, war or peace,
I'm killed in the war or hung during peace."
