My pleasure, lads!
I got lucky and found some unused, vintage buttons on ebay from a lady in Scotland that (as far as I'm concerned) I paid way too little for.
I looked for quite a while before simply stumbling onto these by accident! They'll go on a Perry Ellis tailcoat (also scored on ebay) that I'll be retayloring into a PC-type jacket when I get time.

You think being big is a problem? I am almost 6'3", have a 43 chest, 33 inch waist, 36inch inseam (well, fixed THAT problem with a kilt didnt I?),35.5 inch sleeve length, etc.
Being tall can be as big a hastle as being large & muscular.
As Bill Clinton would say,,,, "I feel your pain".

Kilt jackets for the size enabled
For the large men among us, and I proudly lay claim to such distinction, the world is not ready for us. The fashion industry tries to throw us a bone every now and then by making something 2xl. That isn't gonna cut it for alot of us. While I don't like my beer gut all that much, I bought it, I'm gonna wear it!
I have an order in to a place in India that makes uniforms for re-enactors, and they will tailor an Argyle Jacket any size, $164, shipping included. I have not recieved it yet, but the owner said 4 weeks to produce and 5 days shipping, and he still has a couple of weeks before I start checking for packages at the door. I hope its of decent quality, if not I will let you know.
Check out his website; http://www.replicaters.com/index.html
the website is a little odd, but the owner is very prompt with replies to inquiries, Just allow for the time difference

I'm just finding this thread.... Nelson, if you still need buttons, we have the standard Prince Charlie diamond buttons available -- I'm pretty sure we have some in stock right now.
Also, we have jackets listed on our gift shop site up to a size 56.
http://giftshop.scottishtartans.org/kiltjack.html
If you are not a standard size, and need to jave a jacket tailored, my experience has been that it is less expensive to purchase the Scottish jacket of your choice in a standard size closest to what you wear, and then have a local tailor alter it, than to pay to have the Scottish tailors make a custom size jacket for you -- plus if you are an unusual size, it's best to use a local tailor so that he can take measurements directly from you.
I did have a gentleman call one time looking for a 72 jacket (yes, that is a size Seventy-two). I called my suppliers about it, and they said they wouldn't even touch it unless they could see the man in person and take measurements from him. They suggested his find a local tailor, show him the style of jacket he wanted, and have one made. I called him back, passed on the advice. Later that same afternoon he called me back to tell me that he had already found a local tailor who could do it!
So it never hurts to ask. Just because a clothing shop isn't "Scottish" doesn't mean that they can't make you a Scottish jacket. If they have their own tailor, just show him what you want -- you might be surprised!
Aye,
Matt

This thread reminded me that I found a website that will produce a custom-tailored wool suit for about $300 USD. Granted, the shop is in Malaysia.....
So I guess there are no 'scottish' jackets that are the monetary equivalent of the casual sport jacket outside of India?? It would be great to have a 'scottish' TJ Maxx to shop from....

Well, the good news is you get what you pay for. The bad news is you get what you pay for. I ordered an Argyle with a length of 33". What I received was an Argyle nicely made, but 22 inches long, with sleeves to match. With the addition of my balmoral I looked like an organ grinders monkey. All I needed was a tin cup and I'm rollin' in the bucks!
Needless to say I was disappointed. I communicated my displeasure with the owner and he fired back a reply that it was his staffs fault and that he was making me a new one that would arrive before my daughters wedding. Thats fine, but I can't rely on that. I got a cheap black suit coat and am cannibalizing the epaulettes and pocket flaps from the first to make a proper fitting one at a local tailor. The gauntlet cuffs should be no problem for the tailor to duplicate. The buttons are ready to go from one to the other, and with some shortening and reshaping the coat should be perfect.
All in all, I have relearned a valuable lesson. You get what you Pay for. This whole thing has cost me as much as getting a custom made jacket out of Scotland in the first place.
So laddies, what have we learned? All together now, You Get....
