I'm afraid yagotta cut the carbs, Al'. I've been through the same scenario. At my age... and your's it would seem... we become resistant to the chemistry that burns off sugars, starches, etc. (Its all the same stuff really). Instead, it just gets packed on the waistline. I can personlly attest to that. Excercise as well... thats great too. I forget where I heard this but I think it's true - "Every moment of pleasure in life must be paid for with a equal moment of pain". It's pay-back time Al'. 8)

Al,
It is well known that Geordie Land and Tyke Land (Northumbria and Yorkshire for our American friends) are the unhealthy eating capitals of England. Exercise will help Al, but there is no substitute for healthy eating. When (in the 1970s) I moved from the (healthy) South to Yorkshire, I was appalled at the 'gravy and chips with everything' mentallity, and it certainly shows in the heart disease statistics. I hope you are not one of them Al. You wouldn't want to become too big for your kilt, would you?

Now then Phil, stop this craving. You know it's bad for you. Just think of all those kilts that will be too small for you to wear.

You may have a point, Rob, though I tend to eat quite healthily as a rule. That is until I work a late shift and pass the Chinese Takeaway or the many Indian Restaurants we have around here. It is a well known fact that it is an insult to refuse food offered by these folk, so what do you do?.........

Al,
You mean that Chinese Takeaways and Indian Restaurants offer food to you in your area. That's not fair. Around here we have to pay for it.
I love good Indian food.

It is a tradition in Asian households to offer food and drink to visitors and you risk insulting them if you refuse. We are actively encouraged to accept hospitality if offered. Not alcohol of course, but anything else within reason.
My local Chinese Takeaway are perhaps the most persistant. I had to stop visiting for a while. I usually insist on paying.

I have what some of you might think is a radical recommendation for a healthy lifestyle.
Go veggie and take your kilt for a walk. It's fun and interesting.
Casey.
