Tips and pointers for a new kilt wearer.

Thanks for all the great pointers and compliments, everyone! It's much appreciated. Another question that comes to mind; is there a "set" time to let the kilt air out after wearing? I haven't had it on over just a few hours (which was mostly just inside the house) and I let it air out for about 4 hours. Should I let the kilt air out longer or is the usual 24hour period for airing out the kilt generally used for all-day usage?

I use Steve's method for hanging the kilt. After wearing, I hang the kilt on a ceiling hook I have in the bedroom (I've done this with my suits for years.) I'll usually let it air for two to four hours. When I put the kilt in the garmet bag, I have a hanger with a cedar block attached that I insert between the two kilt hangers. This puts cedar at the top near the opening (I also have a small block in the bottom of the bag), and helps give a little room for the kilt to breathe (at least that's my theory,....and I'm sticking to it. )

Take these for what they're worth - just one guy's opinion:

Wear the belt higher, almost to the top of the kilt.

Get those sporran chains on the outside of the belt. Better, yet, for all but formal wear, get a plain leather strap and wear THAT on the outside of the belt.

Turn the hose tops down a bit farther. They'll look better and cover up more of the flashes, which will also look better.

You're off to a great start!

I'd say you've got the look right; tighten the belt and lift the sporran a bit....
