    BURYING THE LEAD ?

You, my friend, have sneaked one in on us. What you meant to say was "I AM GOING TO SCOTLAND!!!!! I may not have room for the perfect clothes..."

I am a 55 year old attorney, having practiced in various courts for 25 years. After two hearings , including one in which I testified, I went to lunch yesterday and discovered that I had left the house in a glen plaid linen suit jacket and linen glen plaid suit trousers, but they were from two different suits. Aside from thinking, "Hey, I have another suit like this at home" I was stuck with the knowledge and the outfit for one more hearing. After I pointed it out, a couple of my courtroom pals admitted they had noticed. As far as I know, the judge heard what I had to say and treated my clients fairly anyway.

This is a forum about clothing, but I do wonder if we sometimes spend too much energy on it. Have a great time on your trip. Maybe you will find an ex-hire argyll while you are over there. By all means, take your kilt. You will need it to safely wrap up all of the Whisky you will be bringing home.

There's no point wearing the kilt in an inappropriate fashion just for the sake of having the kilt on. You should be particularly concerned with getting it right, especially whist in Scotland. Wear the PC for the black tie. Do not attempt to "dress down" the PC, you will look like a lemon. It has satin lapels and is a tuxedo equivalent. Do not wear your regular sports coat with the kilt either. While you might get away with this option overseas, it certainly won't go unnoticed in Scotland so neither of these options are good.

As the fine gents before me have stated, either A) Wear a pullover and tie or B) Hire the appropriate jacket when you land or C) Save the kilt for black tie and wear your saxon jacket and trousers for the less formal dinners.

That way, you will look well-dressed and that's the point after all.

Thanks for the advice. I would rather do it properly or not at all. Will go with A, B or coat and trousers for informal and the kilt for the black tie with the PC. Very helpful posts.

Here's another option: leave the PC at home, rent an Argyll from a shop in Scotland, and wear it to both events. Or, if you wear a size 42/44, buy one of my converted tweed jackets for the informal times.
