Walker Slater in Edinburgh has a good selection of beautiful tweed waistcoats, all with collars. They're not cheap but I know from first hand experience that they are worth every penny and more.

I started this thread because of what seemed an overly long waistcoat/vest and just last night I may have discovered the problem. I always buy jackets and vests in long or tall to avoid the dreaded gap, however, because I wear kilts at my natural waist, a regular length vest is perfect. It stops a bit above my sporran and doesn't bunch as the long does. So memo to self, buy kilt vests in regular length.
