Sad news indeed. One Facebook friend from my home town of Paisley reported that someone in the town had lost a son in the accident and another friend over in Ayrshire knows someone who lost his father. The Clutha pub is on the bus route which I drive at the Glasgow Show for two days in July so I know the location well.
Here in the Borders I'm 85 miles away from Glasgow city centre and today being the St. Andrews weekend when we have the Monday holiday was the day of our annual Christmas parade when our town Christmas tree is lit up for the start of the season. There was no mention made of the helicopter crash at the festivities, perhaps the organisers felt it best to say nothing so as not to spoil the event for the children.

A sad day, even more so being St Andrews day. I know it is not on the same scale but memories of the Lockerbie tragedy come to mind with all the innocents lost in a disaster from the skies.

Glad to hear from you Niall. My first thoughts were of you and Shona and others I met in Glasgow. Poor folks. I toast all hurt in the incident. May those injured have a speedy and full recovery. May those who perished not have suffered.

Having been a flight medic a person always fears something such as this happening. My deep meditations and positive thoughts to those who survived and those who lost family or friends.

I am glad to read of xmarkers support today because we are all stunned. The Clutha is a real 'heart of Glasgow' pub and there would barely be anyone I know who has never been in it before. The effect on the people of Glasgow today is visible on their faces.
Exactly Kiltfitz, the Clutha was a bar I frequented sometimes when I lived in Glasgow although I was more often across the road The Scotia. Absolutely unbelievable news!

Thanks to both Peters and everyone else for your kind words and good wishes. You will no doubt have seen the official report and we are hoping that there won't be any further additions although things are.... catastrophic to say the least.
Tulloch, to give you a perspective, the bar is about 150 yards from the entrance gate to the world's, not that that makes a difference but there probably isn't a more historic part. Even the street gets it's name from the actions of William Wallace's troops, it is that old.
No details needed about the incident here, suffice to say that the helicopter landed in the bar at the busiest part on a busy night. All crew perished along with some people inside. Recovery at the site is not yet complete. We could easily have been talking about much bigger numbers.
The names are slowly being released, I already recognised one face among the dead, good chance there will be more. All reports tell how people ran toward the site as soon as it happened rather than away. They started a human chain. Eyes keep filling with tears when I think about that. Mad bastards, Glaswegians. Everyday heroes. Can't write any more about it.
