I laugh at this on a regualr basis. Its not just lifts that have a problem with the scottish accent. The voice recognition systems in cars are a problem; the Kia range of cars are terrible, to the extent it is possible to see people shouting at and hitting their cars while trying to make a phone call using the in-car system, I know its not just me, I have proof. Trying to phone home, or as the nice Kia lady says "hyoooouummmmm" is particularly frustrating. I have given up programming site names into my phone book, she just says "cancel" to names such as Novar, Kilbraur Ford is better - just.That was a bit of an old geezer rant, wasn't it.
My Nissan, made for the American market, can't understand my fairly standard American accent. And I enunciate rather nicely. I don't even try anymore.
