I am quite sure that Kinloch Anderson will not knowingly break the law. Any of their garments which has a label that states "Made in Scotland", can be guaranteed 100% to be made in Scotland. The problem is that the vast majority of garments carry a label which states "Tailored in Scotland". Not the same thing. Not the same thing at all.
I am not saying that they buy in garments from outwith Scotland and then alter them to fit the customer - as in tailored. But I am saying that if you want a kilt made by them and ask to speak to the kilt maker, the answers you get will be - 'Sorry, not company policy'. Just like I was told. Would that ring alarm bells with you? It did with me.
There is more to this story, but all I will say is "caveat emptor" - buyer beware.
Yes, I know this too. My mother actively supports the cloth making industry. If she ever saw that I had an item of clothing that has any part of its origin in Pakistan or China, she would blow a gasket. The "Made in Scotland" and the Harris Tweed logo are important to her.

I have a Prince Charlie and a kilt from Kirk Wynd. I'm very happy with the quality of both but they were vintage when I got them. I don't know what their current practice is.

That is for sure an excellent shop, but I'm less than sure that they sell over the internet. It maybe best to give them a call and ask?

I have happy news. I had a long chat with my brother and used all the arguments presented to me on this thread. He has assured my mother that I will be getting real Scottish items of the highest quality, but without the hassles, by buying all the items from a supplier in Canada.
For those of you who may think my mother's desires and stipulations are odd, you need to bear in mind that she sent me home from a visit years ago with 20 pounds of Scottish Breakfast Tea, because she believes Canada is a primitive country. I had real joy trying to explain to the customs officer in Montreal why my carry on baggage consisted of 40 boxes of strong tea.

Thanks, that does look like a fine place, and I will keep them in mind for the future. However, I took careful note of the arguments, made by the rabble, herein, for having everything supplied by a Canadian supplier, and I have made an arrangements for my current needs. My tartan is already in process of being woven, and I have been promised that everything will be ready for my birthday in July.
