"Scottish games? I'm looking for the Sons of Italy meeting!"
I seem to get more of the "Are you a bagpiper?" question than the games question.

This sort of statement (or question) seems to be the perogative of residents of North America. Here in the United Kingdom, I have never heard such a statement being made, nor have I ever heard any references to Pipe Bands when I have been wearing any of my tartan kilts.
When travelling on the Subway in New York last summer, however, I was asked, "What band are you with?" Taken totally off my guard, I hadn't the faintest idea what that meant and had to ask the questioner, "What do you mean?". Reference was then made to a pipe band and I was able to answer that I was not with a band at all - nor did I play the pipes. The other fellow looked as though he could not believe what he was hearing, shrugged his shoulders and turned away!

The correct response is 'Twisted Sister'.

I got the ‘Are there Scottish games going on today?’ just yesterday. For this question, I put on my most innocent face and answer ‘Not that I know of’. That generally stops the conversation dead.

It happened to me at Floors, in Kelso, last year Ham.
A young boy, with a distint Scottish accent, no more than 6 or 7yrs, asked me the question.
'Are you in a band?' He asked.
'No', I replied.
'Then why are you wearing a kilt?'
'Because I want to' I answered.
He just looked at me and walked off.
OK. So he could be forgiven. It was a massed pipe band day at the castle and there were hundreds of kilts about. However, apart from me and the Duke, (that, of course, should read 'the Duke and I'!) all the kilt wearing guys were in pipe bands!

If I can change tack a bit, since it is winter here I keep getting the question: "aren't you cold?".
Usually i say "no way, I have a warm top on" (be it a woolie or a coat).
To those who are more interested i explain that a kilt is a very warm and comfortable garment.
