Norbo, if you bought it with Paypal or a credit card, do raise a complaint and ask for a refund with either Paypal or the credit card company. Include the original description, your photographs and all communications with the seller. As Anne says, do it immediately, there is a time limit.

My experience with Paypal has been that once you have lodged your complaint, they will pursue the seller and buyer in turn to keep the issue progressing and if they detect that the seller is trying to deliberately expire the time limit, they will come down on the side of the buyer.

    Good luck!
    Regards, Sav.

We all learn from our mistakes.
Its easier just to keep the sporran and put it down to a bad buy.
If I were you I wouldn't waste even more money posting the sporran back or opening a formal dispute.
In the past I've done over a thousand eBay transactions, both as buyer and seller but I closed my eBay account a year ago as there are just too many scammers, both buyers and sellers and neither eBay nor Paypal are at all helpful in dispute resolution.
If you aren't happy with the sporran you can always gift it to some impoverished youngster who is having to save hard just to pay for his first kilt.
The seller has already got his karma from your negative posting here and you are also entitled to post negative feedback on eBay.
Thanks for advising us where not to shop.

Formal disputes filed through Ebay are easy. I did one on the moth eaten tiny baby kilt I bought and had my money back in a few days. Write a clear complaint about not getting what was pictured and offer to send photos should they need proof of what was sent to you. Do it today because there is a time limit and some sellers will mess around with you as to make you miss the time deadline.

I have made a formal complaint but its just a message to the seller for now threw the resolution centre so now I have to wate 8 days before I can escalate it I have all ready made several messages to him so im just going to have to wate the 8 days then escalate it as he expects me to pay for the return post and may well in the end say it never got returned . If he wasn't down in the Middlesex area id go round personally and get the money back .

I just bought a synthetic horse hair sporran from a seller with 100% positive and it took forever to get here. When I got it, it was really cheaply made. Not as bad as yours, but lets just say that I broke his flawless streak. He asked me to reconsider my feedback, but I ignored him.

I got a message from E-Bay this morning a general one not just to me but in it was the following statement . its part of the new users agreement .

Many of our sellers have already started using eBay Managed Returns and are paying for return postage on faulty or not as described items. Starting from 15 September, we will introduce requirements that all sellers take responsibility for return postage on items which are faulty or not as described. The majority of our sellers are already providing a great returns service, but for those sellers who choose not to facilitate a return or provide/fund return postage for items that are faulty or not as described, we may refund their buyers without requiring them to return the item and in turn we will seek reimbursement from sellers.

Sounds like a common enough problem that they've had to put the stompy boots on...

Good. Just do what the ebay messages tell you to do and you'll end up with your money back. It's a bit of a hassle but it has always worked for me.

I know that this is annoying as A#(*&$#@A_ but here's a thought...

If you removed that cantle and soaked it in vinegar, or dilute boric acid overnight, it would etch the chrome so that paint would stick to it. In fact, if the volume of the dilute acid solution were big enough, it might even completely remove most of the chrome.

Then, dry it out, thoroughly. Then find a good spray enamel and paint the cantle black, red, green or what-have-you. Re-assemble. This might make the thing wearable, at least.
