This gentleman actually posts on this forum, but we haven't seen him in a long time. He and I are friends on FB and while I've **seriously** tuned down my Facebook involvement, when I spotted this picture I had to message him.
He claims to be a rank amateur. Uh. I'm not buyin' it. That thing is flippin' gorgeous.
Every year at the Ardenwood Tartan Day Games here in California, I give away an "Athlete of the Day" prize. It goes to the Athlete who produces the most impressive performance of the day. One year it went to an <200 pound guy, who completely re-wrote the field record book for the lightweight class by setting 6 new records of the 8 events. Another year it went to a brand new guy, who came out and darned near won the A class on his first outing. Last year it went to my training partner, Lance, who utterly dominated the Masters class and set three new field records. He already owns 6 of the 8 field records for the Masters.
Next year, the winner gets a blade from this craftsman. Nice, huh?
As pointy things go, that's a beauty. Since much of the steel in Scottish weaponry came from Scandinavia and Germany, and the long history of Vikings vacationing in Scotland, I would not hesitate substituting that blade for a dirk (If I were inclined to wear one). Your friend has a real talent.

I say sax, as originally, the term 'seax' was only used in Britain. In the Norse realm, anything that cut was originally called "sax"...I gather even scissors!
Not seen one with the ship -prow pommel, but it Does look very nicely done!!
