That is such a great video, brilliant performance and the quality of the recording is very good. I hope there is a copy in the Smithsonian or Library of Congress.

This has always irked me because you cannot head west from the Cumberland Gap to Johnson City, TN...barring traveling around the entire globe, sans 75 miles or so. Otherwise, good song.

Tarheel, some of us in the great beyond (beyond the borders of the US, that is) do know what the names Mississippi and Missouri mean – in fact I believe I first read that in the National Geographic before I finished high school.
But there probably are a great number of folk around who don’t know what the Big Muddy is.
    Regards,
    Mike

I never intend to discount the intelligence of others Mike. I like to offer the small detail of a local name such as the "big Muddy" to those that may not have heard of it. I even appear as a fool to ones in the know for my doing so rather often. I find I reach more ears with the small tidbits than have some get a "RCA dog with the phonograph" expression.
    No harm, no foul.

Was in the park the day these then unknown guys showed up the first time, to play for free, and got booed .
We quickly learned to love them, and their style came to represent, for many, the Southland.

Not everyone is, certainly, but I'm grateful that this guy is. The epitome of doing what you love to do, and doing it in the Southland.

My best friend in High School was a huge Doug Kershaw fan.
