I didn't get there till 1976 I was DEAF 16, Direct Entry Adult Fitter, and as such had to already have the Maths, English, and Physics before entry plus at least 1 other O Grade, Though most of us on our entry had a lot more than that and we had a High percentage of Scots in that intake.. Though after we left I believe we were renumbered DAD 4?
Sadly all the cockroaches in the dinner halls are now homeless as all but the married quarters are demolished. For those that don't know there were two Dinner halls, I believe, originally one for the Apprentices and one for the rest. But by the time I had got there numbers had already decreased so it was all in together for the junior ranks and every six months we changed dinner halls and they fumigated the other one.
Now all electronic trades are trained at RAF Cosford as further cuts have reduced the RAF.

It wasn't meant to be, I don't think I'd have enjoyed the trade I'd chosen. I went into the Army instead later on.

I take it you didn't join the REME then.

I did enjoy the trade (Ground Radar) and RAF and was kicked out when it was discovered I was Allergic to anaesthetics! However economically and probably everything else, I am probably much better off for having left.

I was going for Electronic Fitter Ground Radar, but never had an interest in electronics before joining, it was almost a random choice. No I didn't join REME, though maybe I should have done. I could have had any job the Army offered but I joined the Cavalry (17th/21st Lancers). No real regrets.
