Hamish sorry to read about your flooding problems.We have similar over here during the thaw.We live on a hill and if ice blocks the run away the water comes in our drive way.Like Rigged says you must try to divert it around if you can.

Sorry to read about your computer woes.When it's all over sit back take a deep breath and a large G&T with your feet up.

Oh dear Hamish I hope I didn't jinx you with my email re wondering if you got flooded Know that if I lived nearer I'd give you a hand in a second. Water does cause so much damage, instead of being amused by you the roofing lads could give you a hand for an hour diverting the flow.
Rufus/Andrew yes I do the landscaping on my days off and have 3 jobs on the go at the moment, I've also been approached by a couple of business men who want to finance me to take on bigger jobs.
My life is on hold a bit as the jobs are being used for a porfolio.
Anyway welcome back Andrew and yes I think Sarah was feeling neglected

Sorry to hear about your flooding. I can empathize as we are having our roof redone as we are tired of the pails in the sun room.

But, we haven't had to water the lawn all summer.

We've had a wet winter, but the bonus is that our water storage tanks are all full. we're not connected to the town water supply.

The California and Nevada deserts are subject to periodic flash floods. Just last week several campers were stranded and a few were killed in Death Valley when the (below sea level) desert area flooded.

On a lighter note I've read in several places how much people are nervous about wearing their kilts...

Back to the subject at hand...

The ONLY reason that I've been nervous about wearing my kilt, was on "kilt checks". There's always that chance that some babe will step-up, and find-out that I'm TRULY Irish.

Other than that, was this past weekend. I went into a Biker Bar in Baltimore (say THAT ten times real fast) and got the initial "looks". After awhile, I was getting asked where I got the kilt. WHEW!

There are very few places I won't wear a kilt, such as a couple bars around here noted for violent conduct for any or no reason. I don't go to those places anyway so that's no big thing.Nowhere I've gone have I had any problems. A few strange looks and a few laughing comments but no problems. On the whole reactions have been puzzlement or approval. Be confident about who you are and the rest falls into place.

As I mentioned in a post earlier in the week, over the weekend I had a GREAT time at a biker wedding, including the subsequent reception at a biker bar. My wife got the rare chance to dress in her leather vest and pants in and also had a fun time. Actually, since the crowd was mostly in denim, she also stood out! I did get some looks and a few questions, along with one frisky (yet frightening) woman who spot checked me for undergarments.

Conversely, folks seemed to find me particularly funny today at Sam's Warehouse Club. I try to keep a sense of humor about myself, but I really wasn't seeing how a guy in a kilt could cause so much amusement amongst the other shoppers. I felt as though I was wearing a clown suit. Then, at the US Post Office, a fellow whistled at me and felt free to tell me I could use a hair cut. He could have used a bath, but I kept that to myself while I smiled and continued with my transaction. The clerk did ask him to leave, though.


Going out is certainly a mixed bag.

I'll be travelling via public transit today. I'm taking my car down to San Jose to get painted and have to walk about a mile to the train station and take the train back home.

It's sure to be an interesting day.
