Several years ago, I took part in the 60+ mile London to Brighton Charity cycle ride (it's not a race) for the British Heart Foundation. In an effort to raise additional sponsorship, I volunteered to do the ride in a mini-kilt. As far as I know, among the 27,000 cyclists taking part, I was the only one in any form of kilt.
Whilst in training for the event, I frequently wore an ordinary kilt to check its 'behavior' in different weather conditions. I never had any problems other than there being constant danger of 6yards of long pleats becoming caught in the spokes of the rear wheel. It was mainly that experience that decided me to go for the mini-kilt on the day when, for my own comfort and no other reason, I decided also to wear severely cut off padded lycra cycle shorts under it!
The whole day was a great success and I raised over £1,000 by taking part. Only one regret: no photos were taken!
