Clan tartan ties, unforgivable sin?

It is not a matter of right or wrong to wear a tartan tie with the kilt, its certainly absolutely nothing to do with that ridiculous term, the kilt police and as many of you will know, many traditional kilt wearers are not too bothered about matching anything------apart from shoes and hose.

It is just a question for some, of over doing the amount of tartan being worn and many consider that several yards of tartan worn around the waist in kilt form, is enough. We are however, in the realms of wearing ones attire to best effect. Therefore, there is an opportunity to add a bit of personal flair by perhaps wearing a club, regimental style tie or at least add some colour in tie form, other than tartan.

In passing, actors are probably the epitome of wearing whatever they wish whenever they wish and why not? Well the picture used as an example in this thread proves the point of this so well-------------but traditional kilt wear and in so many ways, it is not. Does it matter? Not one jot. Unless that is---------------------

I would not wear a tartan tie with a kilt, or mix tartan patterns. But, well, see below.

(I don't post this as an example of "how to do it", but to show that it's not a hanging offence.)

To me, looking at this photo, I think the thing that stands out the most for me, is the White Hose. The White Hose just does not fit at all... I have a pair of White Hose, and I haven't worn them since I got my Black, and Navy Blue and Bottle Green hose... In fact all I prefer to wear is my Black Hose...

May be a bit unorthodox, but I was a groomsman for an Australian Scotsman's wedding - Navy/Gold theme, and I wore matching bow-tie and flashes with pattern on them

When I still wore a suit to work, I would wear one of my clan tartan ties, but I never wore those ties with my kilt. As my avatar reveals, I do wear tartan above the waist.

If the colors matching is the issue then find a tie that matches the colors in the kilts tartan. If you are having the kilt made, ask them to make you a necktie and a bowtie from the same fabric.

Another answer is to just tell the naysayers that one is older than the other and it is just faded/weathered.

And, there is always taking the long walk off of a short pier.
