I have to confess that I have a rather morrised melodeon which - during its first few weeks with me, had a bit of restoration done, which was done completely inside, but on the outside only the back and underside were renewed, the visible parts were left in the well used condition as received.
I don't think I would have actually inflicted damage on any instrument, but I did smile at my reluctance to fully fettle the instrument so it didn't look as though it was just bought.
