THAT'S exactly where I am right now!!!

I have all the other kilts, and would REALLY like to make the next one a GREAT casual kilt. It's down to the three kiltmakers that are getting RAVES around here:
    1). Pittsburgh Kilts (custom job)
    2). Freedom Kilts
3). Bear Kilts 8 yarder (got the 4 yarders)

How about that? I'm running to my buddies on XMarks for kilt advise!!! Shock.

Right now, I'm leaning heavily to the western side of the state and Jeff in Pitt. The thought of a WELL MADE custom kilt is just too tough not to try it! Yes, I know that I can sit down and kick one out... but what's the fun in that? You've gotta support the guys with the "brass ones" to run a one-man kilt company these days! (Right Terry?)

Just the PK's so far. I've had a Bear Kilt on order since June; no idea when that's gonna arrive. When it does, I can compare them.
Same here, more or less. I have had a pair of Bear kilts on order from mid July. Consequently, since UB is before me in the queue, he'll be able to offer a comparison first. Bear's workmanship is so highly touted that I have absolutely no concerns about that. What I am concerned about is whether or not I will like poly/viscose as a kilt material.

Lessee, I have 6 PKilts in the closet with one on order in olive 13 oz. cotton twill. That will probably do it for me for awhile. Which one are you considering, UB?

I am also looking at another Kilt Purchase soon,
I have some Ideas that i would like to pass onto Jeff
once i am closer to purchase and see what he thinks.
But i am also thinking about the other 2 makers Mentioned.
I want to try out Bears traditional cut with buckles in a big way. I am waiting for him to have one in stock I bought my 1 bear kilt that way was the fastest kilt ever hehehe. Just so happens it was to my exact size though. I like the look of the freedom kilt in a big way as well I tell ya it is getting hard to decide.

I have a Bear kilt, USA Kilt, and a Pittsburgh Kilt. All are outstanding. We can't go wrong with any of these kilt makers.

I was on my way to getting an R-Kilt but they got very busy (good for them).

I emailed back and forth with a Steve of Freedom Kilts a few times. I am waitng for a couple of pictures...(Steve, are you still going to send me those pics? I am still interested!)

I was looking for a Utilikilt (Workman's) but the wait seems too long. I am not sure I can survive the Jonesing...

    Atticus,

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you. I'm trying to find the two guys who bought the kilts in the colours you want to look at.
Both of them are in the Navy and seem to be at sea. Either that or they have been transferred.
Stupid me, I didn't get photos of the kilts before shipping them out. Never seem to get around to getting photos. Sure would have been nice when I was putting together the web site. All I had around the shop were three kilts, all in khaki.

I'll still try to get those photos to you. in the mean time I have orders for the same colors, but the customers don't want them till Christmas and I'm filling other orders first. First in-first out. (except of course for guys on Xmarks) I should have some shots for you mid-November by the latest.

A note to all those interested in a Freedom Kilt....
I see a lot of emphasis placed on the yardage in kilts. When I was designing mine, I just based everything on the number of pleats. Each pleat shows 2 inches and it was a handy way to size a kilt. So your size determines how much material is in your kilt.
For example a 40 inch waist kilt starts out with a piece of fabric 259.5 in. or 21.62 ft. or 7.21 yd. or 6.59 mtrs. of 25 in wide fabric.
I was more interested in designing pleats with good swing and not with overall yardage.
Ron Mcdonald's (Riverkilt) kilts have 18 pleats which equals 7,21 yards and Oliver Gifford's (Zeytoun) kilts have 18 pleats which equal 7.49 yards.
I hope this clears up some possible misunderstanding.

    I wear the kilt because:

Which PK, you mean? I'm leaning toward traditional this time: wool, 3 straps, eyelet, no pockets. Probably solid color. I'm thinking of a kilt I can wear to the orchestra in winter.

First trick is to find some heavy wool. Doubt I'll find anything local, so gotta look online. Any ideas?

If you have a Hancock Fabrics store near you check with them. The store here has a nice selection of decent wool.

    length question

I have just ordered my first Pittsburgh kilt, but I have a question about length. When I bought my first UK, I measured, and found my length to be 21.5 inches. Because they had a 23" in stock, I bought that instead figuring that I could get it chopped. When It came, I found it to be the perfect length.

So to date, I have 8 UK's and all are 23 " and that is the correct length. So, anyone out there that can give me a comparison to UK length VS PK length would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I ordered the 22" because that is what the yardstick test says, I'm just a little afraid that it will be too short.
