Welcome aboard lad, dive in. You'll soon be looking at contemporary kilts too for knocking around Calgary.

Yes, I'm considering a utilikilt or something of that like, seeing how I wouldn't want to get my current one dirty!
What I think is quite unfortunate is that any sort of kilt garment for a male is just really expensive. I was able to get my kilt at a very good price (200 pounds), but when you take into account all the other things and converting currencies, it gets really expensive. Although my mom has helped me buy some of the things, it just gets too expensive for her, so many of the things I've had to buy myself.
I've already invested a small fortune into this, so what's a bit of a shame is that I won't be able to afford a utilikilt or anything else for a good while, and my current kilt is not something I'd want to wear to school (someone might rip it, something could spill on it, etc.)

Rubber Soul,
Welcome! You might check the Utilikilts website. They have a giveaway program for people who do community service work. It might only be for people in the Seattle area, but it might be worth checking out anyway.
https://secure.utilikilts.com/frameset-nke.htm
They also have slightly damaged kilts for sale at a discount. They might have something in your size. They usually have them listed on the website, but I can't find the link. You can call and ask though.
Great to have you aboard!

Yeah, I've looked around the site. Sizes shouldn't be a problem, seeing how I'm relatively good sized for my age (5'9", 150 lbs).
Anyways, I might save up a bit and consider a Utilikilt, but I would prefer to buy new!

Welcome to the forum! I'm a fellow Calgarian, so you're not alone!
Like others have said, I sure wish I'd had the guts to start wearing kilts when I was your age. I'm 41 and have only recently discovered how cool they are.

It's not something that I think took much guts. And if it did, my pride in being scottish, and my quest for more comfort definately outweighed that.
Cool to see more people here from Calgary! I'm the only person I've seen here who's worn their kilt around doing everyday things, so it's nice to know others do, too.

Thanks JohnAllen! You should try and get your kids (if they're male) into kilts! I know that when I have my own I'll probably be encouraging them to get them at my age, if not younger! Of course we know better... they should at least go and try one on and see if they find it comfy, heheh.
Thanks as well Sporrano, don't worry about being late ;-)

What part of the city are you in? I'm in Erin Woods in the SE.
I don't wear my kilts on a daily basis yet, but I'm working towards that. Perhaps if you're able to do it at your age with no hassles there is no reason why I shouldn't.
