8 yard 16oz Lochcarron Modern hunting MacGregor bought in Edinbro' 23 years ago and it's been right round the world with me at least twice. The amazing thing is that in spite of, at times, daily wear, there is almost no colour loss as compared to my piper's plaid bought only a couple of years ago.

i'll now add, that my McNicol Hunting is hand sewn, around 06/2008

I have one, I think, from a Stateside maker, J. Higgins. Just checked the stitching on the pleats and they appear to be hand done. The waistband most likely is machine sewn, but as stated above, the hang fit, feel and "swish" is unmatched. I ordered from him because I was most impressed by the set of band kilts he provided. His prices are somewhat lower than most of the Scottish made ones, which make me suspect that there may be more machine work on it. In any case, I am 100% satisfied with my purchase.

I have two: both are 8 yd. knife-pleated 13-oz. tanks, pleated to sett. One is MacMillan Ancient in Old Colours, and the other MacMillan Old in Modern. The Ancient was done by Strathmore, and the Old in Modern by House of Edgar.

I own an eight yard, single-width strome 16oz MacGregor Hunting. I bought it from Celtic Craft Centre.
I was still living in San Jose, CA, so I went to their San Francisco store to get fitted. My kilt arrived 6 months later. Hand sewn by one of their contractors in Scotland. I am considering purchasing another in the MacGregor Deeside tartan.

I agree the blue in the Glengyle/Deeside tartan is a nice color and contrasts well with the red. I would like to know more of the history on the tartan. Unfortunately, according to Sir Malcolm MacGregor, the Chief of Clan Gregor, there isn't any information available on the tartan.

My Black Watch officer's kilt is a 16 oz. beauty made for me by by Burnett's & Struth. It's a real quality piece of work, and hasn't needed pressing since it was made for me 8 years ago. It's probably the finest kilt I've ever owned - and I've owned a few - all hand-sewn, 8 yard wool. I don't think I could ever bring myself to wear a poly viscose kilt.
