This sporran is undersized- I assume it's a Youth's sporran.

    It's 16cm x 17cm.

For comparison an ordinary adult leather sporran I have in front of me is 17.5cm x 19.5cm.

The lovely long-link chain strap alone is well worth the price.

For an adult size you could put on longer leather straps, if needed.

    Vintage sporran

Just listed on Ebay uk a 1937 silver sporran in excllent condition and starting at £1

I've recently seen a similar vintage silver sporran sell for almost £400 so will watch this with interest....

It didn’t stay £1 for long.

£229 and still 6 days to go!!!

To rich for me and think this might end up being the most expensive sporran recently sold on ebay.

I'm the outlier I suppose, because I don't have any interest in that sort of sporran.

It's beautiful of course, but I want practical things to wear, and sporrans like that have very little room.

If it was just the cantle for sale I'd be interested. I could send it off and have a lovely roomy sporran made.

For a formal sporran, I kind of like the style. The big pocket ones are almost to big the be comfortable dancing in. It would only be for formal occasions though that don’t require carrying much of anything.

Yes, £400 sounds about right and perhaps a wee bit more given the rather special tassel cones. As OC Richard says, "very little room" and impractical unless you leave the mobile phone at home or in the car and just carry a credit card in it. So fine for a posh dinner!

I saw those this morning, looks like the Evening one has been snapped up. I had messaged the seller asking if the side of the cantle had a tiny stamp "Nicoll Bros" because that specific cantle was AFAIK made by them.

That brown leather Day sporran is interesting due to the badge, one that I've never seen before. It has the look of a military badge but if so it's an unfamiliar one. I think it's yet another instance of the aftermarket sticking of badges on sporrans, something that's been the ruin of many an otherwise fine sporran.

Here's another brown Day sporran for a great price, unmarked but clearly a vintage Scottish-made item, probably made prior to the advent of press buttons.

and another brown Day sporran, said to be a Scout one though it's not the usual BS pattern, but rather a standard adult pattern. It's stamped RG Lawrie, pretty cool.

Being a former dancer I understand!

Now my dancing days are behind me, it's piping or attending Games, and for both I want as much room as possible.
