    Gordon Highlanders Tie...

    Beerbecue, try:

    http://www.bensilver.com/fs_storefro...root=1&show=13

Ben Silver sells the regimental ties of the 3rd & 4th Battalions of the Gordons -- I have a 3rd Battalion tie because the 3rd Battalion was raised before the First World War in Banff & Buchan, where some of my Cumming relatives were from.

Ben Silver's ties are not cheap, but they are worthy every penny!

    Also, try:

    http://www.gordonhighlanders.com/ghs...m?p=shop&cID=3

You'll see the regimental tie down the page.

    Cheers,

    Todd

Aside from various regimental tartans, I've seen Prince Charles in Hunting Stewart (ancient), Balmoral and Lord of the Isles (which he is, by the way).

Prince William has worn a kilt, but has yet to do so at a public event.

The Queen Mother didn't just think of herself as Scottish, she was Scottish.
"The daughter of Lord Glamis, later 14th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne, she was descended from the Royal House of Scotland and retained strong associations with Scotland."

    Phil,

I took it as a very poor photo of an RCAF, given the letter attached. I could be wrong.

    RCAF...

That is the RCAF tartan in the photo of HRH Prince Charles on the Burnett & Struth's web page.

The RCAF tartan is based on the Anderson tartan, and was designed after a Burns Night in Nova Scotia in 1942:

    Todd,

Don't spoil the RCAF tartan. I try to forget that it's from the Anderson tartan. My exwife is an Anderson.

While doing some unrelated research I discovered the tartan and origin of the kilt worn by Prince Charles in his engagement photos.
The tartan is in fact King George VI's personal tartan. The kilt and sporran actually belonged to George VI himself. Prince Charles is George VI's grandson and inherited these and several other items (read castles) after George's death.

Shane, do you have your source handy?

know who one identifies with is an important denominator, but I would have thought that the late Queen Mother had a good start on being Scottish as Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, daughter of the Earl of Strathmore, growing up (largely, until she came out) at Glamis Castle.
    David,

Oops, I didn't explain myself very well, did I? ;)

I should have said that HM the Queen Mother always identified with Scotland and her Scottish roots; besides the Black Watch, she was also Colonel-in-Chief of the London Scottish, and reportedly told an Afrikaaner woman in South Africa in the 1990's when she complained about the "snobishness" of the English, "that's all right -- we feel that way in Scotland as well!"
