I had to look it up a few days ago but I just had to place a name with something I already knew existed. So if a iverness is a big poncho with a little poncho on top would a kilt just add another poncho layer? That way both halves of you have warm air bubbles with one big bubble over your whole body?

Sounds great, but it would be a little costumy. However I figured a duster would look costumy but I saw one the other day at school and it didn't seem like a costume at all, just a guy in another coat. The guy at school who wears a green cloak on the other hand, I'm not sure if it is a costume that he wears for the novelty, or if it is just a practical garment he has chosen to wear.

And now for something completely different...

The need for something "waterproof" was noted in a number posts. Maybe I'm the only fly-fisherman in the group but has anyone thought of using a wading jacket? There are quite a few on the market -- just take a look at teh websites for Sierra Trading Post, Cabela's, Hodgman, Orvis, LL Bean, Simms...pretty much anyone who manufactures or sells fly-fishing clothing and waders will carry something.

Most are in muted, natural or neutral tones (lots of khaki, med-brown, greens) but you'll find exceptions. They're usually water-resistant as a minimum and waterproof as the norm. They're proportioned along the Ike/bomber style. Some are insulated.

I have a really nice slate blue, insulated one from Hodgman that saved me from hypothermia after a brief, unexpected swim one 40-degree late fall day a couple of years ago. If it gets brisker than its insulation might combat I just add a Polar Fleece vest or pullover underneath. I'll have to see about getting a photo.
