Yes, the sporran came with a combination leather/chain belt and I will need to take some links out of the chain; I have a 34" waist. It is unlikely I'll wear a kilt too much outside of formal occasions. I can't wear shorts to work so kilts are right out too (lab safety issue). However, I may certainly think about a leather strap in the future.
For the other Northern VA folks, I'm in Centreville and am a recent transplant from Nevada.

Welcome to the site cinnabar, this is the best place for advice. I have been wearing my kilt, of and on, for around forty years and appart from the advise from the kilt maker i had to figure the way to dress properly out by my self or go to the library. As to the position of the sporran, well its all been said, and the chain, yes it does wear the material, but i personaly like it and have never removed it. I do have a new black one arriving in the next few days, for a evening engagement, hope it will still have the chain. If not, well out with the pliers. Enjoy wearing your kilt,it is a very empowering garment.

When not working...you can wear a kilt whenever and wherever you like.
