    Welcome aboard Marine,

My first thought was a camo. Not sure what Steve at Freedom Kilts has currently, he's too modest, a fellow Jarhead.

If you're after a tartan why not the USMC tartan? Elegant.

You can get an inexpensive USMC tartan kilt from SportKilts, just be sure to get the sewn down pleats, custome length, and belt loops.

Don't know if you could afford a wool USMC tartan kilt, particularly in Hawaii, but if you did most any kiltmaker could order up the material and sew it up for you.

I'll definetly have to look into that whether its in my price range or not. I didn't know the Corps had an official tartan. And as for Freedom Kilts, I was already heavily considering.... Thanks again for the advice.

Welcome! Somehow I missed this thread, but I see you have been given much sage advice. The USAK semi-trad in Blackwatch wil be an excellent kilt. Can be dressed up or down, not too warm, and can be thrown in the washer and hung to dry after a night celebrating (not that I would know from personal experience ), as I understand the Corps is wont to do!

Rocky and Kelly will treat you right!

And no, I am not affiliated, just a twice satisfied customer! (Rocky and Kelly, twice satisfied, am I making a mistake with my metaphors here....)

Trying, without success to steal a pic of the USMC tartan to show you.

    Here's a link instead.

This one looks a lot brighter on my monitor than I'm used to seeing the tartan colors on a kilt.

    John,

I am fairly certain that the USMC tartan is not official. Here are a few pictures of the USMC tartan:

Also, Alexis Malcolm Kilts is the only source I am aware of for US military kilt pins, kilt belt buckles and cap badges.

As far as I know, none of the military tartans are official, by which I mean no one has written regs stating that. They are all becoming pretty well set unofficially though.

the government has granted me the "honor" of bestowing upon me a menial monthly payment for hours upon hours of tedious labor. Oorah!
Hehe...another satisfied customer of the Green Machine, eh? Two nephews, both just released from the Corps.

Dave, there is one: the RCAF tartan.

Welcome aboard the good ship Xmarks! If you are considering the USMC tartan for a future purchase take a look at http://www.alexismalcolmkilts.bigste...generic14.html

I just ordered an 8 yard kilt in the USN tartan from them. The USMC tartan looks great and in a lighter weight wool might still work for you on the Island.

    Again, welcome

I suggest kilts...and lots of them. Family tartan if you can afford it, but any will do.

oh, don't forget the belt, buckle, sporran, hose, ghillies, sgain, dirk, flashes....

I am thinking of getting one of Alexis Malcolm's Hillwalker kilts in the Navy tartan, with a Submariner's Dolphins kilt pin.

If you could... e-mail me some photos of how your 8 yarder looks, please!
