JB, Yes, I'm planning on being there on Saturday. My son will be there also...remember, he's the one with the BIG hair.
Hey Barclay..where were you this past Sunday? The Celtic jam was the best I've heard all year, and oddly there was plenty of room at the bar.

I emailed someone at the Games and found that the parade starts at 6, starting at Main and Broad and going to the Hyatt. The performers are going to be at the Hyatt end. Hope to see a bunch of you there, should we try to meet somewhere, or just hope we "bump into" each other?

Well, shoot! To speak suth'n, "it came up a big storm" and figured it best that I wait it out. Which I did by falling asleep on the couch with a 90 pound boxer laying on top of me. Sorry! I hate that I fell asleep. Hope to see you this weekend, and Sunday too, if you go.
Joe - I haven't talked to those guys yet, but I'll see about them. I'm all for getting up with you guys for a pint on Friday. And I'm really hoping that my schedule allows me to be at Furman on Saturday as well. And thanks for the update on the route, sounds like we had it right by parking at the Hyatt!

So what was the feeling about the new Greenville games?
I thought they came out pretty good, especially for a first time!
I LOVED the kids section, next timeI will DEFINATELY bring the kiddos. This is a note that more games should take into account.
There was also an interesting collection of vendors, covering a wide variety of materials and trinkets. For the arms obsessed among us (myself included), Highland Blades covered the fine art/high end side with their wonderous works, while Bold Blazons covered the rest of us with their good quality, but much more affordable selections. One of the vendors there said Greenvillemust be the most heavily armed games they've ever been to (must mot have visited the MacBubba tent-especially the ones stashed out of sight), they sold two or three games worth of stuff, wished they brought more, and wondered wear they would get stuff for the next games or two.
The weakest part, at least for me, was the clan tents. Not enough showed up (including any I had blood ties to).
What about y'all?

clan tents...
The weakest part, at least for me, was the clan tents. Not enough showed up (including any I had blood ties to).
Just a general observation, since I cannot speak to the Greenville games specifically: remember that clan tents are manned by volunteers, who unlike the vendors, are not making a living by traveling around to various games. Some clan reps can only make so many games a year due to work and the cost of going to games (hotel, gas, clan tent fees, etc.)
Also, a society may not have someone to represent them in your area, so no clan tent -- you could always check with the clan society and see if this is so, and then volunteer! We (clan societies in general) are always looking for volunteers to help out!
Cheers,
Todd

It was not a critique of the societies, there are plenty of ways to access them-> internet, Highlander magazine, etc.
It was more of the games, which had FAR fewer than I've seen at others.
Like 15 TOTAL
Overall, not a bad weakness and one easily remedied.

You have to remember that there is no central governing body that puts out the word to all the clans that there's a new game in town. Usually what happens is that the people who visited it the first year come back next year to man a tent. That's happened to me with the new games in Knoxville. I didn't know about them until a week before they happened. But, I'll try to be there next year operating a tent for Barclay.

In addition, for any potential readers with influence, I was informed that the invited guests and, especially nobles, were markedly slighted at the games. I heard some talking (in the MacBubba tent-> THAT GROUP IS GREAT!!!!). Appearently, there was significant breech of edicate.
Note to game planners . . . proper edicate is EXTREMELY important.

Todd is quite right. The games did a good job with it's advertising to
the general public. I think they had a excellent turnout between 5 to 8
thousand. They do need to work on their Clan recruiting.
A number of folks will go back to their clans and say that they need
to have a tent there next year.
They are a little pricey for the
Clans that do not reimburse their members for expenses of the
tents. I think they were around $200 to $225.
If they want more Clans they should off some spaces with less expenses.
i.e. bring your own tent ext.
The Foothills games did that this past year and had 3 times the number of
clans they have had in the past.
