The road to Xmarks is paved with Utilikilts. Welcome. Soon you will know all about kilt pins and sporrans. In the meantime, enjoy the UK. I started there too, now I have three, a NeoKilt, a Stillwater Kilt, a Freedom Kilt on the way, and now trying to figure out what to get for my first "tank."
Regards,
Rex in Cincinnati

Of course I have not tried a kilt, don't know if I'll like a kilt....although you all think that once you try one, there is no turning back.
However, once I get used to my kilt I think I will need some moral support to get me out into public AND maybe if a bunch of us went on some weekend outings we could get Phoenix more accustomed to kilts.
Just a thought....

Well.....I will tell you that IF the kilt is just a wrap around piece of cloth AND the kilt pin gives me a better chance that things won't fly apart in some unique unforseen situation THEN I think that kilt pins are a good idea.
Hey....we can have 50mph winds here in the desert during monsoon season....which is supposed to start THIS WEEK!

Welcome to you from western NC! Just a suggestion- wear your kilt around home a lot for the first few days. It will help you to get used to how it feels and moves, and you'll be much more confident and relaxed when you venture into public

Greetings from another new UK owner. There is a wealth of information to be found on this site, include some very helpful hints about going to the bathroom when wearing a kilt. From my reading I gather that a pin is just used to weigh down the outer apron flap of a traditional kilt, and isn't used to pin the two layers together.
Best regards,
Jake

Welcome, Phil. Glad you found us. You'll find lots of message threads here about initial experiences in public. People in the U.S. are mostly OK with kilts but curious. You'll discover lots of responses here to the questions you'll be asked, especially "The Question".
The black UK is great - comfortable and goes well with anything. Wool tartans aren't necessarily everyones choice.
And congratulations on reaching the age of 50. You'll find yourself caring less about others opinions since you're now of an age to offer your own. (I myself am aspiring to the exalted title of "curmudgeon".)
Keep us posted on your adventures!
