I'm 63, and I can rember most of it. As for TV, there was no color TV, and in order to watch one of the 3 channels we had, I had to walk a block to my grand parents house. One of my most vivid memories of TV, was having the repair man come to our house (We finally got one) . He plugged in his vaccum tube tester, checked a few tubes, and threw one away, saying you don't need this one anyhow. The TV worked, so he charged my dad a service charge (less than $5.00) and left.

    Jerry,

Do you remember when you could take the back off and look for a burned out tube in your radio or TV, then you took the tube out of the set and took it to the drug store and plugged it into their tester. If it was burned out you could buy a new one at the drug or hardware store. If you were lucky, the new tube you installed fixed your TV or radio.

If the TV reception was bad, you could rotate the antenna and improve the reception.

    Man, that was years ago.

In my house, if someone walked up to the tv the reception cleared up. Of course, if they sat down the picture blurred again.

We had an old set that was starting to go bad. For a while, when the image blurred, you could stomp on the floor and the picture would clear.

If that didn't work you could always give it a good whack on the top or side.
