"This comes from the very first Ubersausage in Edinburgh. It was meant as a joke but we forgot to tell anyone that and as a result it got taken very seriously indeed. Ciaran received death threats and was chased down the Royal Mile by a piper with a knife "
It begs the question, what is a joke? May be the piper with a knife was just joking?

Well, my grandafther always reckoned there were strange people to be found in Edinburgh.
A thing that rankled with me about the BBC News write-up was the fact that it was available in Japanese, Mandarin, Arabic, Russian, Spanish, English, and Welsh, but not Gaelic.

The link worked fine for me. This is bogus as can be. One should never forget where they came from, and the traditions thereof. Ban good music, and a comfortable, and quite distinct, and instantly recognizable garment. It definitely seems as if this wank has gotten nowhere, given when the article came out, and I seriously hope he never gets anywhere. Tell the same guy that England must give up a number of traditions in order to progress as a nation, and he'd probably crap his pants. Ok, enough of my childish ranting on this issue... but it does seem very ridiculous, as I am sure it did when the idea was put forth in '99. Oh yeah, and nevermind the fact that the kilt and the pipes had been banned at one point in time. I don't think that people are willing to replay events from the past as such.

Y'all seem to be ignoring the link I provided. According to that site, it was intended as a JOKE, but got out of control!! Generally speaking, satire isn't explained because the seriousness is part of the schtick; apparently this one should have been.
