Everyone is wondering about the stitching. It is called Western Double Loop.

I have posted some pics that will give a little better view.

Yes, the button is a piece of deer antler, although the closure as you can see is velcro.

An excellent sporran!! I hope the one I'm currently working on turns out half as good!
I do have one question though: what are the dimensions? I've constructed mine around an 8 inch diameter circle...I just hope it's not too big!

Thanks for the additional photos, Breacan.
That Western Double Loop stitching looks great. That is a lot of lacing to go all around like you did!

May I offer an observation on the D rings on the back? I noticed on the one I bought that the spacing was only about 2 inches apart. This made the sporran unstable, that is, it wobbled and sometimes looked askew. On the last ones I have made I extended the spacing to about 5 inches. This seems to eliminate that problem. On the other hand, the clips I use on the sporran belt are more visible, but I think not unduly so.

What are you planning for your next one?

Nice work indeed!

I've dabbled with leather work, but quickly gave it up. I stick with bonnets and other clothing items now a days..

I am seriously considering making one using Stingray skin. I have not seen one made of it, but notice there are some out there with fish skin inserts.

Stingray is probably the toughest leather you can get. I have a wallet made from it and it is really nice looking.

Although not something I would wear (personal ethics), brother that looks fantastic. May I assume that the white patch is from a fin? And might I suggest that that be the focal point. Show pics when you're finished. I am sure it will look amazing.
